Living with a Mini Goldendoodle Puppy
Things to know about living with a mini Goldendoodle puppy. We recently purchased a pandemic puppy and I thought I would share with you what living with a mini Goldendoodle has been like.
We have an F1 mini Goldendoodle. He is half poodle and half golden retriever. I’m not even sure what the F1 is. We have 2 boys 6 and 10 and they absolutely love their new puppy. They ended up naming our mini Goldendoodle Buddy even though I wanted to name it Biscuit. However, Buddy seems to be a fitting name for this guy.
Buddy the mini Goldendoodle has been an awesome puppy so far. He was having accidents in the house like any puppy would but has gotten better quickly. His accidents are few and far between now. We have had Buddy for about 2 months so potty training has been quick. Mini Goldendoodles also seem pretty smart and learn fast. Buddy knows how to sit and stay already and really, really knows what a treat is. He does puppy bite frequently though and sometimes gets the kids. They get upset with him but he isn’t biting hard he just has those sharp puppy teeth.
After having him home for a week or so he was having diarrhea pretty bad. We ended up taking him to the vet and they said everything looked good. It cleared up quickly and now he is fine in the poop department. He seems to be a pretty healthy dog at the moment.
How do mini Goldendoodles sleep? I’m not sure if we just got lucky but he sleeps pretty much all night every night. We do crate him and he does fine with that. He whined the first few nights for a little bit but it didn’t last long. My wife and I took turns sleeping on the floor next to him the first few nights. He has also gotten sick in his crate a few times. If this happens we let him out and clean up and usually sleep on the couch with him. Yes, this mini Goldendoodle is spoiled already.
Should you consider a mini Goldendoodle? I would highly recommend this breed of dog. They hardly shed, sleep great, they are smart, and they seem to be very good with kids (except for the puppy bites). This is only our second dog as a family and it has not been as bad as I remember with our first. There is still time to prove me wrong on that though.
